Tandy Nurse came to America in 1990 from Georgetown, Guyana. Before earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, she started her training at Boston Arts Academy during her high school years, where she received the dance award for her graduating class. Miss Nurse went on to attend The Ailey School’s Summer Intensive Program the following summer, and later attended Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theater. She also attended Walnut Hill Summer Program on scholarship, where she studied Russian Ballet with Mr. Shannon and Mr. Dodukin. Later, Nurse attended The Boston Conservatory Summer Program with a full scholarship. She has had the honor of performing the choreography of Doris Humphrey’s “Water Study” under the direction of Ian Hahn and Carol Burnham, and was a soloist in Danny Sloan’s “The Gospels According to…” re-staged by Marianne Harkless and Christien Polos, and in 2004 she performed in Danny Sloan’s “The Gospels According to…” along with Sean Curran’s “Mozart Mostly”. Nurse was also present in “The White Oak Project” with Mikhail Baryshnikov in 2001.
